B & M Scientific cc (BMS) was founded in September 1989 by Mr A.M. Hargey (M.Sc) who had been studying, working and teaching in the science field. This need to provide scientific expertise and service, coupled with a commitment to service excellence is the core basis for the company's existence today. BMS specializes but is not limited to the microbiology and biochemistry fields and is steadily growing with branches in the main centres of South Africa such as Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria. BMS was born out of the dark shadow of South Africa's past, thus the industry was untouched and still reflected the inequalities which it was still shedding.

As a black enterprise, BMS continues to grow by the opportunities created and the excellent service it provides within the retail lab sector. It has and will continue to make its mark as a dominant player. Our aim is to become the largest provider & source of equipment to laboratories in Africa with quality products and services which enhance and help the individual forming a lasting relationship between company and client. We should thus serve as a role model for black economic empowerment which will encourage future black entrepreneurs to enter the industry in the new South Africa.

We aim to be a reliable, efficient and affordable source of laboratory consumables to the entire scientific community without compromising on quality, providing product knowledge and customer service. This can only be achieved through technology (internet, EDI etc) which BMS is equipped with giving instant access to customer information, thus allowing us to respond quicker to enquiries and orders and provide the latest cutting edge information and products whether by phone, fax or email. It is also our goal to provide resources to the previously disadvantaged communities where the need is now greater. We therefore endeavour to provide a comprehensive service to the research and scientific communities headed by well qualified and experienced personnel and thus building a distinct identity by the quality brands of equipment and services provided. We believe that all businesses should play a meaningful role in contributing towards economic and social development in previously disadvantaged communities. Our products are carefully selected from suppliers who are nationally or internationally accredited (SABS, ISO, DIN etc..) and have a proven track record amongst their current customers. Each item is further inspected when it reaches our floors. Our operational department makes sure that the quote is attached to the delivery note & final invoice thus complete assurance on the item provided. With the years of experience the company and managing director have, you can purchase with complete confidence!

A copy of the BCEA, LRA & OHSA is continually displayed. Staff are trained by those in senior to handle products and are provided with complete protection & safety clothing which is a must when entering the storeroom. No hazardous items are stored on the premises. Only senior staff are allowed near items which are potentially hazardous and life threatening. Fire fighting equipment is on hand and smoke detectors are installed in the store and office area. No disposal of chemicals are done, purchases match orders, excess is returned to supplier! We are registered with many schemes (COID etc..)
